Course description and aims

The purpose of this course is for master's program students to acquire basic knowledge and skills that will help them decide their own career paths after completing the course and build their careers in the future. This course covers all career paths, including admission to the doctoral program ,and employment in industry after completing the master's program.

After completing the master's program, in order to play an active role in society in the future, it is extremely important to acquire "how to live" in addition to what you learned in students' major course. This is the purpose of the career development education program at Tokyo Tech, and the purpose of this lecture is to comprehensively condense the basic items necessary for that purpose. Lectures will be given by a faculty member and lecturers who have abundant practical experience in central government offices, universities and private companies.

In this course, after taking a bird's-eye view of what kind of careers Tokyo Tech students are taking after completing the master's program, students learn about rules, ethics, flow of money in companies and universities, entrepreneurship, etc., which are an indispensable knowledge necessary for building a career for the future. They also think about how to build a career path in industry and academia with a global perspective. In addition, students learn the basic manners of working adults who are useful in job-hunting and a real world. The content of the lecture should be understood efficiently from outline, and it should be practically useful for future job-hunting and subsequent career development.

Three "Master's Career Design" courses are offered in 1Q (A1, A2, A3), two in 2Q (B1, B2), and one in 3Q (C). The contents are basically the same, and the "Master's Career Design" course does not necessarily have to be taken prior to other career development courses, so it is desirable to make a course plan by yourself so as not to concentrate on a specific lecture.

Since there is a possibility that students will concentrate on the lectures offered in 1Q and 2Q, the maximum number of students taking each lecture will be 250 from the viewpoint of ensuring the quality of the lectures. Therefore, depending on the number of applicants for the course, a lottery may be conducted by the method described in "Others" below to determine who can take the course. The method of determining students who can take the course depends on the lecture (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2). Therefore, be sure to read and understand how to determine the students who can take the course, by reading carefully each syllabus of the courses. In addition, regarding the status of who can take each course, this syllabus and the Innovator and Inventor Development Platform (IIDP) website (https://www.titech.ac.jp/english/enrolled/career/career_education/master-career.html) will be updated to provide related information. So keep track of the latest situation.

There is no limit on the number of students who can take a lecture offered in 3Q.

Distribution of lecture materials, submission of reports, and communication related to lectures will be done using the OCWi system.

Students who have taken "Master's Career Plan" and "Master's Career Design II" (LAC.M402), which were offered previously, cannot take this course.

Class flow

・Lectures will be conducted online by ZOOM. Students are required to participate in real time to ensure interactivity of the lectures.
・The instructor will use PowerPoint presentations in each lecture, make use of tables and charts with many examples, and advance the lecture in an easy-to-understand way.
・In each lecture, an assignment will be imposed and request the preparation and submission of reports later. The report will be reflected in the evaluation and will be useful for the students to develop their own career in the future.

The reference books are written in Japanese, so please refer to the Japanese syllabus. There is no English reference book.

Assessment criteria and methods

In each lecture, students are required to submit a report on assignments. In that report, how deeply they understand and consider the assignments from the perspective of developing their future career will be evaluated.

〇1st lottery
1. By April 11 (Sun) (Due to the system update time, the registration must be done by 23:00 on that day. The same shall apply hereinafter.) If the number of students who have registered for the course exceeds 250 , 250 students will be selected by lottery in the morning of the 12th (Monday). The student ID number of the person who can take the course will be announced on the IIDP site (https://www.titech.ac.jp/english/enrolled/career/career_education/master-career.html) in the morning of the 12th (Monday). IIDP will inform students registered of the result by mail. In addition, those who can take the course will have a "*" in the remarks column next to the lecture name on the Web System for Student and Faculty in a few days later. Please note that even if you register for the course after the number of people who can take the course exceeds 250, you will not be able to actually take the course. Information on this will also be provided by updating the IIDP site and this syllabus.
2. If the number of course registrations does not exceed 250 by April 11 (Sunday), all the students who registers the course at the time can take the course. The notification methods for those who can take the course is the same as above. After that, the course registration will be accepted continuously.

〇2nd lottery
1. If the total number of students who can take the course in the 1st lottery and the number of students who have made a course registration on April 12 (Monday) exceed 250, the 2nd lottery will be done for those who have registered for the course on that day so that the total number of students who can take the course will be 250 in the morning of the 13th (Tuesday). The student ID number of the person who can take the course as a result of the 2nd lottery will be announced on the IIDP site (https://www.titech.ac.jp/english/enrolled/career/career_education/master-career.html) in the morning of the 13th (Tuesday). IIDP will inform students registered of the result by mail. In addition, those who can take the course will have a "*" in the remarks column next to the lecture name on the Web System for Student and Faculty in a few days later. Please note that even if you register for the course after the number of people who can take the course exceeds 250, you will not be able to actually take the course. Information on this will also be provided by updating the IIDP site and this syllabus.
2. If the total number of students who can take the course in the 1st lottery and the number of students who have made a course registration on April 12 (Monday), all the students who resisters the course at the time can take the course. The notification methods for those who can take the course is the same as above. After that, the course registration will be accepted until the number reaches 250. If the number of registrations is concentrated on one day when the total number of student who can take the course and newly course registered students reaches 250, and it is necessary to limit the number of students who can take the course, another lottery may be held for those who have registered for courses on the day when the total number of students who can take the course and newly course registered students exceeds 250.

1. The IIDP site and syllabus will be updated to provide latest information on the status of students who can take the course.
2. Please note that even if you register for courses after 250 students have already taken the course, you will not be able to actually take it.
3. Even if some of students who can take the course withdraw their course registration afterwards, no replenishment will be done.
