Course description and aims

As a training course of the Academic Leaders Program (ALP) primarily directed at D1 and D2 students, the students will learn best practices for teaching through attending a lecture by professors in teaching and doing mock lectures by themselves. Moreover, a model English lecture will be offered to improve the students' ability of teaching in English.
This training course mainly targets D1 and D2 students who have a career plan to pursue an academic position like a professor in the near future.

Student learning outcomes

The goal of this training course is that the students experience teaching best practices including mock lectures by themselves, and learn teaching skills through attending lectures by professors in teaching.

Class flow

This training course consists of the following parts: The first one is to attend a lecture on teaching skills, a model lecture, and so on. The second one is two mock lectures by each doctoral student: One is to give a high-school students a lecture on the research being done by each student, and the other is to give university freshmen the lecture related to a basic science.
All the students will receive the information on Zoom URLs, can download instructors' lecture materials, and can upload your reports through OCW-i.

Class 2 16:15-17:05, Tuesday, October 12, Zoom Introduction of Tokyo Tech, along with the latest statistics (Kazuo Shinozaki) How to do a mock lecture and select its theme (Noriyuki Kouchi) Understand the latest fact data on Tokyo Tech, and learn the overview of two mock lectures
Class 3 14:20-17:55, Tuesday, October 26, Zoom Mock-lecture practice to high-school students (Noriyuki Kouchi and Hirofumi Akagi) Presentation of the individual PPT files prepared for the mock lecture.
Class 4 The time will be determined. Friday, November 12 Actual mock lecture at a high school (Noriyuki Kouchi, Kazuo Shinozaki, and Hirofumi Akagi) Make the mock lecture at a senior high school.
Class 5 14:20-17:55, Friday, November 26, Zoom Mock lecture to university students (Noriyuki Kouchi and Hirofumi Akagi) Presentation of the individual PPT files prepared for the mock lecture.

Prerequisites (i.e., required knowledge, skills, courses, etc.)

1) International students can take this training course under a condition of having a Japanese-language ability at an N1 level in the Japanese language proficiency test (JLPT).
2) It is not possible to take the training course in duplicate.
3) As a general rule, each of doctoral students, who belongs to his/her doctoral course for less than six months, cannot register for this course.
