Course description and aims

*This course is for the doctoral program students.In this course, students experience the problem resolution process through group discussion, report to one another, and receive comments from the staff of private company. This course is intended for students from all academic majors, so a variety of members with different knowledge and ideas will be debating. By coming into contact with diverse and different cultures, students are expected to enhance their thinking and expand their perspectives.
* This course is conducted in collaboration with Japan Business Federation (Keidanren). The lecturer is a current manager of a company. The outline of the problems are provided by the comapny staff, and students receive advice from facsilitators from the comapny in group discusison. Students learn the details of problems in the industry, initiatives aimed at solving them, and the values and perspectives of people in the industry.

Student learning outcomes

In groups composed of members with different backgrounds, students can deepen the understanding of the nuts and bolts of acting as a team by summing up and expressing their opinions about issues, listening to the opinions of others, and adding corrections in order to reach conclusions.
At the same time students deepen their understanding of how to get a picture of industry problems, approaches towards a solution, values and perspectives, etc.

Class flow

*The target class size is 30 students or less.
* Group discussion
* 3 intensive lectures in 5th and 6th periods
* This program is carried out in collaboration with the Japan Business Federation, with topics presented by instructors sent from companies selected by the federation. Group debates and presentation sessions will be held.

Assessment criteria and methods

* Students are evaluated based on the participation and contributions in group discussions. (80%)
* Evaluated based on the degree of involvement as the roles such as leader, presenter, and record taker. (20%)
