Course description and aims

This course is for students who have already completed Basic-level Japanese.
The aim of this course is to promote students' listening/speaking skills to lower-intermediate level using familiar topics.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. improve accuracy in listening;
2. acquire appropriate expressions of spoken Japanese used in real life;
3. learn how to provide an understandable explanation.
It is highly recommended that students set their own goals at the beginning of this course so as to realize their achievements after seven weeks.

Class flow

Various practices will be conducted according to the textbook to help students acquire skills for accurate listening, natural conversation, and for making clear explanations on familiar subjects. Homework will be assigned as well.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students are required to achieve a score of 60 to pass this course based on the following criteria: attendance 70% (mandatory), assignments 20%, final exam 50%, and presentation 30%.
