Course description and aims

The aim of this course is to help students acquire presentation skills in Japanese and cross-cultural understanding through discussions on different cultures from various point of view.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) describe their own culture and society;
2) understand the background of cultural difference;
3) give a presentation about Japanese culture and society from their point of view.

Class flow

Discussions will be conducted on a different topic at each lesson. Students are required to participate in class activities and to make the final presentation.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Assessment criteria and methods

Assessment will be conducted based on students' presentation (30%), discussions (20%) and the final exam (50%).
