This course is for the intermediate level students who have studied in Topic Oriented Japanese 35 (or those who have studied about 500 kanjis) to expand their kanji vocabularies, the knowledge of kanji system, recognition skills of kanji by the reading activities with various Japanese articles in the course, and how to acquire the ability of autonomous kanji learning.
By the end of this course, students will be able to
1)pronounce and understand various kanji combination words at the intermediate level and N2 level of JLPT;
2) comprehend multiple kinds of Japanese texts such as advertisements, manuals, documents, newspaper articles, etc. by using kanji words as a clue;
3) estimate the pronunciation and the meaning of kanji compound words at a glance even if students have not yet learned; and
4) expand the knowledge of kanji vocabulary.

Students will learn various kanji words and acquire the knowledge of kanji and the skills for its usage through the reading activities in each class. The instructor will assign homework at the end of each lecture. Students must take an examination at the end of course.

Only for international students who have the ability of Japanese language at the intermediate level and have known words using 500 kanji items can attend the course. Applicants who have not taken TOJ35 must take a kanji level check test.
