Course description and aims

This course is for the students who have finished Topic Oriented Japanese 27(or those who have studied about 350 kanji items). Students will learn Kanji which we often used in the first half of the intermediate level of Japanese course as well as for daily life and campus life including their research activities. The course is also to expand their knowledge of Kanji system and skills of Kanji recognition furthermore to achieve autonomous Kanji studying.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to
1) pronounce and understand various Kanji combination words in the first half of the intermediate level and N3 level of JLPT.
2) catch the main idea of sentences using student's Kanji knowledge as a clue               
3) guess the pronunciation and the meaning of Kanji combination at a glance even if students have not yet learned.
4) expand their vocabulary

Class flow

Students will learn 13 new kanjis in each class. Through activities and assignments in the class, they will acquire the knowledge of kanji and the skills for its usage. The instructor will assign homework to students at the end of each lecture. Students must take an examination at the end of this course.

Only for international students who have the ability of Japanese language in the first half of the intermediate level, having about 350 kanji items can attend this course. Applicants who have not taken TOJ27 are required to take the Kanji level check test.
