This course is for the students who have finished the study of elementary level Japanese with knowledge of about 250 basic Kanji. Students will learn 250 Kanji which are very useful for the first half of the intermediate level Japanese language study as well as for daily life and campus life including their research activities. Students will learn the pronunciation and meaning of each Kanji, Kanji combinations, and also expand their knowledge of Kanji system and recognition skills of Kanji which will lead students to achieve autonomous Kanji studying.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) pronounce and understand various Kanji combination words in the first half of the intermediate level and N3 level of JLPT.
2) guess the pronunciation and the meaning of Kanji combination words at sight even if not yet unknown.
3) expand their vocabulary

Students will learn 15 new kanjis in each class. Through activities and assignments in the class, they acquire the knowledge of kanji and the skills for its usage. The instructor will assign homework in each lecture. Students must take an examination in the final class.

Only for international students who have the ability of Japanese language in the first half of the intermediate level (around 250 kanji items knowledge) can attend this course. Applicants who have passed the class of TOJ16 are, in principle, accepted in this course. However new applicants will take the Kanji level check test.
