Course description and aims

This course is for the students who have some background of studying Japanese (i.e.the first half of elementary level finished with 50-100 kanjis learned), to acquire the ability of basic Kanji (shape,pronunciation, meaning and combination) and to gain the basic knowledge of Kanji system and skills of Kanji recognition, through class activities.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to pronounce and understand the meaning of basic Kanji combination words at the elementary level.

Class flow

Students will learn about 20 new kanjis in each class. Class activities will be offered to acquire the knowledge of kanji and the skills for its usage. The instructor will assign homework in every lecture. Students must take an examination in the final class.

Prerequisites (i.e., required knowledge, skills, courses, etc.)

Only for international students who have the ability of Japanese language in the first half of elementary level, with 50-100 kanji can attend this course. The applicants are required to take a Kanji level check test.
