Course description and aims

This class aims to improve listening and presentation skills in Japanese and increase vocabulary for university life. Listening/ Reading: Understand the news, searching for the keywords. Read the newspaper to gain a further understanding of the TV news. Discuss the contents. Summarize or write your opinion on it. Mini-speech/presentation: choose a piece of recent news you are impressed, and make a presentation. Kanji: we will learn one lesson of Kanji from the advanced kanji textbook with a small quiz in the next class.
(minimum pass mark 80%, if you fail, you must take a make-up exam.)

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) understand the TV news and summarize the content, 2) explain your own opinion on it, 3) acquire the vocabulary for university life.

Class flow

In each class, students will watch the TV news, and discuss the contents. At the end of the course, you will write a summary or an opinion as homework. To deepen the understanding of the news, students will read the newspaper.
In every lesson, students will take a kanji quiz, and must prepare for it.
