Course description and aims

This course is aimed at very beginning learners of the Japanese language. Students will learn conversational expressions for everyday situations and become capable of having a conversation. Students will also make a presentaion about the Japanese society for a further understanding of the Japanese culture and society.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
・Understand basic Japanese conversational expression and phrases, and use it on a daily basis.
・Build a converstaion to a certain length using basc Japanese expressions
・Make a presentation using expressions and phrases covered in the course
・Express one's own ideas about the Japanese culture and society

Class flow

In the first half of the course, students will learn basic conversational expressions and improve Japanese language skills. In the latter half of the course, Japanese expressions used in a presentation situation will be covered. Students will make a presentation about their exprerience of life in Japan in the last lesson.

Class 4 Preparing a presentation: Expressions in presentation Understand the expressions in presentation. Decide on a presentation topic and create your presentation slide by the next class.
Class 5 Topic conversation 4 "Talk about your country."
Class 6 Preparing a presentation: How to make a good speech Create presentaion slides and script.
Class 7 Preparing a presentation: Practice session Revise presentaion slides and script.
Class 8 Short presentation and feedback Build on and share your own ideas and the ideas of others regarding Japanese society.
