Course description and aims

This course is aimed at Japanese learner at the beginning level. Students will learn the basic Japanese grammar and vocabulary for everyday situation and also some information about Japanese culture and society. In addition to conversational practices, reading and writing activities will be taken into the coursework. Kanji learning also will be prepared.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to: ・Understand basic Japanese structure, grammar and vocabulary and will be able to use it on a daily basis. ・Make requests, ask permissions, express abilities and so on. ・Talk about past events or experiences. ・Express opinions or thoughts.・Read and write 150 kanji.

Class flow

Students will gain the knowledge of basic Japanese language structure and grammatical items to promote language proficiency. To prepare for the class, students should read the course schedule and check up on new terms in the course book. Students are given assignments and should keep it a habit to the following continuity; preview, attending a class and review. At the final class, students are requested to make a short presentation.
