Course description and aims

The aims of this course is to acquire the basic knowledge of Japanese culture, to discuss what is culture, and to summarize them as a final report.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:1) enjoy and appreciate Japanese culture, 2) explain original aspects of Japanese culture, 3) write some essays about Japanese culture as a final report.


Iroha song, classical Japanese poetry, haiku, Japanese gag and pun, palindrome, tongue twister, shiritori game, proverb, folding screen picture, ink painting, Japanese woodblock printings, nursery rhyme

Class flow

Topics change every lesson. Every lesson contains examples and questions for group discussions. Attendance is taken in every class. A final report is the most essential.
