Course description and aims

The aims of this course is to acquire advanced academic Japanese skills. specifically, you will learn how to prepare opening your seminar on a scientist who had an inpact on you.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to aquire a basic skill which allows you to open a seminar: how to collect material; how to talk to an audience.

Class flow

Class will be conducted with pairs or small groups. Class will start with lecture, followed by pair work. Students will make a presentation of the discussion outcome.

Class 2 Select a scientist who affects your life. Consider what kinds of tasks should be done for opening your seminar.
Class 3 Make your points clear, and prepare for your seminar. Paticipate in a seminar and analyze what should be improved.
Class 4 Seminar 1 Paticipate in a seminar and analyze what should be improved.
Class 5 Seminar 2 Paticipate in a seminar and analyze what should be improved.
Class 6 Seminar 3 Summarize what you should improve based on your feedback report.
Class 7 Feedback. Share and disscuss the improvement of your seminar with your classmates.
Class 8 How to improve your seminar. Write a report about the methods of opening a seminar.
