Course description and aims

"Chinese: Basic Course" is intended for students who have no knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. The course will begin with the exercise of the Chinese Pinyin Romanization system: tones, rules of phonetic spelling, and pronunciation drill. We also learn simple conversation and basic grammar, to build up rudimentary communication ability of Chinese. As the third step, at "beginner's class 3", we will learn the past tense, the sentence structure of the adjective, the usage of the auxiliary verb. In addition, by using the supplementary materials, we will touch the cultural and social background of the China, will also to help students to have a better understanding of Chinese society and culture.

At the end of this course, students will be able to

3 Understand the auxiliary verbs and make short sentences.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 30 minutes preparing for class and another 30 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
