Course description and aims

"TOEIC Seminar 1" is designed as an introductory course for students planning to take the TOEIC test. Of the four English-language skills, it puts special emphasis on listening and reading.

Offering TOEIC-style exercises, this course enables students to become familiar with the TOEIC test format. It also aims at improving students' overall English ability by expanding their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
・ familiarize themselves with the TOEIC test format.
・ increase their vocabulary, refine their knowledge of various grammatical structures, and brush up their listening and reading skills.
・ comprehensively improve their English to achieve higher scores on the TOEIC test.

Class flow

Students are required to answer TOEIC style questions in the textbook in order to improve English language proficiency in various settings. They basically take a weekly mini-test to expand their range of vocabulary.

Class 2 Unit 2: Dining Out, Adjectives. Learn how to use adjectives and build up vocabulary Mini-test 1
Class 3 Unit 3: Media, Adverbs. Learn how to use adverbs and build up vocabulary Mini-test 2
Class 4 Unit 4: Entertainment, Tenses. Learn how to use tenses and build up vocabulary Mini-test 3
Class 5 Unit 5: Purchasing, Subject-Verb Correspondence. Learn how to use subject and verb correspondence and build up vocabulary Mini-test 4
Class 6 Unit 6: Clients, Active and Passive Voices. Learn how to use active and passive voices and build up vocabulary Mini-test 5
Class 7 Review & Final Exam. Reduce grammatical errors and build up vocabulary

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
