この授業はTOEFLの概要を知っている学生あるいは受験したことがある学生向けの授業である。授業では英語の四技能のうち、特に聴解力と発話力の向上のための訓練を行う。短期留学に必要な語彙と一般教養科目のコンテンツを理解するための専門語彙(基礎的レベル)を学びスコアアップを目指す。
200語~400語程度のスピーチや会話を聞き、その概要を追うことができる。またそれの内容について、要点だけではなく概要を口頭で明晰に説明することができる。
Students listen to a middle-length speech and conversation (ex. 200-400 words) and are able to grasp its main content. They can explain not only main points but more detailed content of listening materials.

This course will be taught by a bilingual journalist who has been reporting and writing in both English and Japanese on a wide range of issues for a variety of publications. Throughout the course, the instructor will use her knowledge and expertise in the art of story-telling, to help students acquire communication skills that are necessary for presenting ideas effectively and clearly in English to people from culturally diverse backgrounds. |

This course is designed to help students develop communication skills that are applicable to the TOEFL iBT test. The class is highly interactive. Each week, we will explore a different issue using audio lectures (TOEFL), news clips, and discussions. In addition, there will be a quiz that is designed to help students expand their academic vocabulary. Throughout the course, students will also learn to develop intercultural competence, one of the most important skills needed to be able to collaborate with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
