講義の概要とねらい
すべての「英語スピーキング演習」の科目は、その名のとおり、学生の話す力を伸ばすことを目標としている。発表以外の場においては、効果的に話すためには効果的に聞くことも必要となることから、これらの科目の授業や宿題においては、互いに話し合う練習やきちんと聞く練習を行う。
２００番台の選択科目である「英語スピーキング演習第六」は、特に、２人の話者の間で聞き話すことを通じて効果的な口頭によるコミュニケーションを行うことを目指し、「英語スピーキング演習第五」の題材を広げていく。また、教科書や授業で導入された単語や文法が使えるようにすることも、授業のねらいのひとつである。
到達目標
この授業科目を履修することにより、学生は、それまでに会ったことのない人との１対１の会話において、自信を持って、社会や異文化に関するかなり複雑なトピックについてより広範にわたって話すために必要な新たな単語や句を身につけることができる。

授業の進め方
While we continue to explore a variety of issues, more emphasis is placed on small-group discussions throughout the course because this course is designed to help students develop skills that are becoming increasingly important in the global community: intercultural competence (the ability to work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds), active listening, and critical thinking. Students are expected to complete assignments, and come to class prepared for discussions. The class is highly interactive.

成績評価の基準及び方法
The grade for the quarter will be determined as follows:
Class participation: 30% (Evaluation will be based on attitude, contribution, improvement, and a willingness to learn.)
Presentation: 50%
Vocabulary test: 20%
