Course description and aims

This course is for students who do not know much about or have never taken the TOEFL test. The course introduces students to its content and format as well basic vocabulary necessary so that they will be able not only to familiarize themselves with the test format but also study in academic institutions with English-speaking environment for a short period of time.

Student learning outcomes

・Students will understand the content and format of the TOEFL test.
・Students will improve their listening and speaking skills through interactive pair and group activities in class.
・Students will be able to understand a short speech or conversations and to summarize and explain orally its main content in simple sentences in English.

Class flow

Students will work on listening and speaking exercises and activities in the textbook designed specifically for the TOEFL test. They are expected to actively participate in class in pairs and small groups, and also to report back to the class regarding their research on some academic subjects of their interest.

Quizzes: 30%, Class participation: 40%, Final Exam: 30%
