Course description and aims

Students in this course will appreciate and discuss visual performance that lead to an understanding of the rich English-speaking cultures. They read the screenplays and critical reviews to understand a variety of visual expressions and encourage the lively discussion.

The purpose of this course is to train students to read high-quality visual and written texts for their research.

At the end of this course students will be able to:
-grasp the exact meaning of visual and written texts reflecting English-speaking cultures.
-discuss critical issues and share them with others
-analyze texts critically

Class flow

Appreciating a particular film, students experience a number of discussions. They read various materials such as the screenplay, the novel on which the film is based, and critical reviews on the internet. They are required to contribute to the discussion, read the materials, and share their understanding of visual works in every class. It is also required to write an critical essay in the end of the course. The instructor helps students to develop their skills for close reading, critical thinking, and writing the final essay.
