講義の概要とねらい
この授業科目では、「英語第一」に引き続き、将来の留学先を含めて大学レベルで行う学習・研究活動のために必要な英語運用力の基礎固めを発展させ、英語を使ったコミュニケーションに積極的に参加する姿勢を強化する。
そのために、各回の授業において英語運用の四技能にまたがるトレーニングを行う。国際意識の醸成に資する目的で海外事情、異文化理解に関わる題材のほか、科学技術の基礎に関わる英語材料を使いながら、精確な読解力と聴解力を育む。さらには語彙・英語表現力の増強と口頭の発話練習を行うことによって、英語で発信する意欲、知識、技能を強化する。
また将来の留学を見据えて、引き続き大学生活や研究に必要な語彙や英語表現を学ぶ。ここにはTOEFL形式の問題演習が含まれる。
この授業は、「英語第一」で基盤構築を行った情報受容と整理及び発信までを統合する英語運用力を高めることをねらいとする。
この授業科目では、学生はあらかじめ指定されたクラスの学習申告を行い、そのクラスで受講する。各クラスの担当教員は、「講義の概要とねらい」「到達目標」「キーワード」及び「学生が身につける力」を基本的な枠組みとして授業計画を作成し、授業を実施する。
到達目標
この授業科目では、次のような英語の知識と運用力、及びコミュニケーションへの姿勢を身につけることを目標とする。
・将来の海外留学を意識しながら、大学での学習・研究活動に必要な英語運用力をのばす
・海外事情、異文化理解、及び科学・技術の基礎を含む幅広い英語材料について的確に要点を把握できる読解力及び聴解力
・発信のために有効な語彙や英語表現法についての知識を増やす
・目的をはっきりさせた短いパラグラフを英語で効果的に書く力をつける
・構成を意識しながら英語でまとまった意見を述べる

授業の進め方
This class builds upon the skills we studied in English 1. Again each class will focus on a topic from the textbook, but the most important resource remains you - your ideas, experiences and opinions. I will guide your learning across the four skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking - but often you will be working in pairs and small groups to critically explore the day’s topic.
Usually, we will start the lesson with a short discussion of the topic. Then we will input some of the key language and skills necessary to investigate the topic - these skills will also come in useful for TOEFL. After practicing these skills, you will be asked to produce a piece of work such as a short report, a presentation or a group survey.
