講義の概要とねらい

英語第七を引き継いで、この授業科目では、大学レベルでの学修・研究活動を英語で行うために必要な英語運用力のいっそうの向上を目的とした演習を行う。国際意識の醸成に資する目的で海外事情・異文化理解に関する教材を用いるほか、科学技術に関する英語素材を用いる。英語の読解力と聴解力の向上を目指す訓練に加え、口頭の発話練習および構成を考えながらパラグラフや短いエッセイを書く訓練を行うことによって、英語での発信に習熟することも目指す。

到達目標

この授業科目では、次のような英語の知識と運用力およびコミュニケーションへの姿勢を身につけることが目標となる。
・英語で自己表現する力がつく
・パラグラフや短いエッセイを書く力がつく
・英語の講義を理解する聴解力がつく
・英文を読みこなすための方法が身につく

授業の進め方

The focus of this course is speaking and listening skills. We will use the textbook and videos selected by the teacher to engage with diverse and challenging topics. There will be many chances to practice speaking in different contexts including pairs, small groups, and the entire class. The students will have a chance to express their opinions and listen to each other as well as contribute to the direction of the learning itself. We will revisit each of the four sections of the textbook and choose chapters of interest together.

成績評価の基準及び方法

80 percent of the final grade will be on the four presentations with the final presentation being more heavily weighted.
The remaining 20 percent will be on class participation and effort.
