Course description and aims

This course is designed to study performing arts theoretically and practically, with a focus on impro (improvisational theater) and wind music. Students will be divided into two teams: impro team and wind music team. The impro team will study impro and theater theoretically through reading books, and conduct a series of workshops. The wind music team will study repertoire and analyze music through reading books and scores and listening music, and do conducting workshops. The two teams also work together to perform musical theater and conduct improvised music workshops etc.. Students also aim to perform impro, theater, wind music, and improvised singing in front of an audience.
 Students will study impro and wind music as live art expression in depth and enhance their expressive ability.

Class flow

In-person seminar. Basically, the impro team meets on Thursdays during 9th and 10th periods, and the wind music team meets on Mondays during 9th and 10th periods. Details will be decided in consultation with students at the first orientation. Orientation will be held in person on Monday, October 3, during 9th and 10th periods in Room 714, Ookayama West Bldg. 9. If you cannot attend the orientation, let me know in advance.

Prerequisites (i.e., required knowledge, skills, courses, etc.)

No previous impro or wind music experience is required. Students who have been involved in scripted theater and are interested in impro, or who have been involved in orchestra, chorus, or instrumental music and are interested in wind music are also welcome.
