Course description and aims

The instructor wants to develop a learning community on the topic of "creating a collaborative learning community, and following each one's bliss". In the first half, we try to go to World Natural Heritage Yakushima Island from Aug. 22rd to 24th. We would like to reconnect us to other people, nature and ourselves by nature experience and dialogue with colleagues.
The aim is to let the students of Natural Science to remember "we are all children of the earth" in nature experience. It will be the foundation of their research and life for sustainable future.
If the intensive camp is not allowed by the situation of covid19, same kind of workshop will be held at Ookayama campus or on-line.

Student learning outcomes

Students will learn that we human being is a part of the big circle of nature.
Students will learn others and themselves through collaboration and dialogue.
Students want to facilitate a collaborative space in which honest dialogue can be had.
(When it would not be held at Yakushima, we would try to reconnect to society instead of nature.)

Course taught by instructors with work experience

Applicable How instructors' work experience benefits the course
The instructor has visited to Yakushima island for 40 years. I taught the intensive summer class of the graduate school of Rikkyo University for 10 years. I have offered many mindful retreats for busy people who are woking hard in this society. Based on these experiences, I would like to facilitate students to experience the rich natural environment and to dialogue with colleague.
