Course description and aims
In this lecture,we will carefully read "Representative Men of Japan" and "The greatest Legacy" by Kanzo Uchimura, a thinker who represents modern Japan, and consider the meaning of living and the characteristics of oriental personality.
In this course, we would like to deepen our thoughts not only on the discourse of the five representative Japanese people introduced in "Representative Men of Japan" but also on their "living wisdom" by touching their living attitude .
The final report will be about 3,000 characters and will have participants discuss the "representative Japanese" for each person.
We make groups with several people, and give a presentation on the most interesting person among the five people introduced in the book.
I hope them to participate in the class with sincerity. It is a condition of participation to read the relevant section of "Representative Men of Japan" before attending the course.
Student learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to acquire the following abilities.
1) Recognize the meaning of human behavior and "life".
2) Acquire the ability to "read" something behind "personality".
3) Gain a starting point for linguistic expressions based on one's own experience, environment, and emotions.

Assessment criteria and methods
Students’ course scores are based on short report (50%） and final papers (50%).
