Overview: In this lecture, we will deepen comprehensive understanding of the concept of "media". Normally, "media" means "mass media" such as television, newspapers, magazines, radio, web news etc. However, due to the penetration of the Internet and the spread of PCs, mobile phones, smartphones, etc., It became "an era where anyone can become media" that can also receive and transmit information. Everyone was a media consumer and at the same time became a sender. Based on that, we learn the history and current state of mass media, the mechanism and features of new media services such as SNS, the current state of how individuals and organizations behave as media, and acquire basic knowledge on the media.
Aims: Media Study is generally regarded as a liberal arts subject, but the current media is based on IT. For those engaged in the media business, those from science and technology courses at universities and graduate schools stand out. Furthermore, in the case of research workers, the ability to transmit information as media itself is required. Therefore, it is the aim of this lecture to have students of Tokyo Institute of Technology acquire the basic knowledge and a culture of the media.
