本講義は、主に文学作品や映画作品における近代以降の都市⽂化の諸相について扱います。この講義での「都市」とは、たんなる建築的な構造物ではなく、そのなかに住まう⼈間の営みと構造物との関係によって⽣み出されている都市表象のことです。授業は教員による講義と、学⽣のディスカッションとグループ発表で構成されます。「都市はテクストである」という観点から、都市を扱った⽂化理論や「テクストとしての都市」を読解するための⾔語理論を紹介し、その理論を出発点に、都市を扱った芸術作品で描かれている表象を分析します。授業を通してふだん⾒過ごしている都市の諸相に気づく想像⼒と、都市の未来像を描く理論的・歴史的・⾔語論的な知識を学⽣に提供することが本講義の狙いです。授業の最後で履修者は、グループで制作した東京についての短編映画を発表します。

(1) 近代都市を構成する諸要素とその意味や機能を理解すること
(2)(1)にかかわる⽂化理論に親しむこと(3) 近代都市を扱った芸術作品に触れ、その背景となっている都市の歴史・社会・⽂化を知ること。
(4) 芸術作品における「視点」や「主体性」といった問いにアプローチするための理論的なコンセプトを理解すること。
