Course description and aims

You will study history focusing on "people".
"People" have been spinning history.
While touching on the perspectives of art history, archeology, literature and thought history, we will analyze history focusing on "people".

Student learning outcomes

１）To understand what it means to think of history focusing on"people".
２）To acquire multilateral viewpoints.

１）At the beginning of each class, you will be given short comments on previously submitted reports and question.
２）Towards the end of class, you will be given a short report related to what is taught on that day.

Class 7 Historical women ③　―Women in literature. To think about marriage and divorce from works of Ihara Saikaku.
Class 8 Historical men ①　―Think about samurai's view on life and death.（１） To think about what self-immolation is.
Class 9 Historical men ②　―To think about "Akoh Incident".（１） To know the truth of "Akoh Incident".
Class 10 Historical men ③　―To think about "Akoh Incident".（２） To think about the relationship between history and fiction.
Class 11 Historical men ④　―Think about samurai's view on life and death.（２） To think about what seppuku is.
Class 12 Historical men ⑤　―View of life and death of people in early modern times. To understand the actual condition of punishment.
Class 13 Historical men ⑥　―Truth of samurai To explore the actual situations of samurai.
Class 14 Historical men ⑦　―What is "Bushido"? To read Bushido by Nitobe Inazo.
Class 15 Summary. To think about a man’s life terms of history.

Student course scores are based on final exams（７０％）and short reports（３０％）.
