In this class, we consider Japan's security and various problems of the international community through the problem of the US military bases in Japan.
The following are the main questions to consider in the class.
1) What is the military bases for U.S. and Japan?
2) What are the characteristics of the US military bases in Japan?
3) What are the merits and demerits of the bases?
4) What is the base problem in Okinawa?
Students will be able to obtain the basic social scientific framework by critical thinking, discussing, writing resume.

The course will consist in a series of seminar sessions with pre‐assigned readings. Students are expected to do all the readings prior to each session, as well as attend and participate in all sessions. The weekly sessions will focus on laying out the main arguments of the assigned readings and critically discussing them. In general, students should focus on key arguments or perspectives provided by each reading. Think about how readings relate to each other and other concepts we
