Course description and aims

The aim of this course is to help students acquire an understanding of the basic concepts and principles of religious studies and their topics, especially, new religions, cults, religious violence and spirituality. Therefore, students will read textbooks on modern religions, have discussions and conduct fieldwork.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Obtain basic knowledge about contemporary religions and their function in society.
2) Explain spiritual culture..
3) Express their views on religion.

Class flow

We will have a seminar in 9/10 periods every Wednesday. Students will read a textbook on the sociology of religion, religious narratives and biography. And they will have discussions on the week's subject. Fieldwork is also to be conducted in class.
