Course description and aims

Students will understand legal theory and methodology with a focus on civil law. Hironao Kaneko is in charge 2022 spring. By learning how to handle basic legal documents, students in this course acquire skills which can be applied to examining legal problems. There are many branches of law, but the goal of this course is for students to learn about civil law, civil dispute settlements and mechanisms of the civil justice system. In addition, this course covers modern cases such as complex lawsuits and internet issues for specific examples of civil cases relating to the Japanese law contemporary problems, and students study related articles, judgments, etc.

Student learning outcomes

Understand basic legal theory and methodology necessary for graduate research. Students will understand the comparative law study especially between Japanese and U.S. Laws (in some cases British and EU laws).

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
