Course description and aims

This course introduces the various thoughts of "nature (Sizen)" in Japan.
Through interpretation, examination and criticism of discourses on the nature, students will be able to understand historically and comprehensively the concepts of nature in Japan.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand the features and backgrounds of the historical ideas of nature in Japan and their diversity.
2) Obtain basic knowledge of method of discourse analysis used in researches of the intellectual history.
