This course provides students with the opportunity to acquire broad knowledge of the humanities, social sciences, science, and engineering necessary for understanding people, society, science, and technology, interdisciplinary analysis methods, and methods for integrating analysis results from a variety of analysis methods, through workshops, interdisciplinary lectures and exercises, and presentations.
We have determined five fields ("politics, law, administration", "education, welfare, health", "culture, art", "science technology and society", "cognition, math, information") in which students will learn interdisciplinary basic knowledge and analysis methods, and methods for integrating interdisciplinary analysis results. Based on an understanding of the properties and interaction of humans, society, and technology, students will hone the perceptiveness to grasp the essence of problems, the reflective skills to not over-rely on humans, society, and technology, the interpretive skills to communicate to people and society the meaning and issues with new technologies, and methods for responding to them, as well as explain to scientists and engineers the concerns and worries of people and society, thus being able to act as a bridge between people, society, and technology.
Students will acquire the following skills from taking this course.
1) Be able to specify the field to which their own research subject and research methods belong.
2) Be able to analyze their research subject using interdisciplinary research methods.
3) Be able to integrate interdisciplinary research findings.
4) Be able to know the applicability and limitations of their own research methods, using integrated research findings.
5) Be able to understand the meaning and issues with their own research, as well as measures to take for these issues, and communicate them to others.

We are holding "interdisciplinary analysis integration workshop" for each student to specify the field their research subject and research methods belong to, and select interdisciplinary research methods used in analysis of their own research subject. Students will write and submit a "interdisciplinary analysis integration plan" that organizes the results of the workshop.
After that, students will participate in exercises and lessons by the instructor related to interdisciplinary research methods selected by each student, and analyze their own research subject with interdisciplinary research methods. Furthermore, students will integrate their research results, and examine applicability and limitations of their own research methods. Students will write and submit a "interdisciplinary analysis integration report" that summarizes their findings.
Students will also participate in the "interdisciplinary analysis integration report meeting", and based on their "interdisciplinary analysis integration plan" and "interdisciplinary analysis integration report", they will make a presentation on the meaning and issues with their own research and research methods, as well as measures taken against those issues.

Assessment will be based on: attendance to “Trans-disciplinary exercise workshop (10%)”, “Trans-disciplinary exercise presentation session (10%),” and the classes in which each student participates (60%); “Trans-disciplinary exercise plan report” (10%); “Trans-disciplinary exercise final report (10%).
Students enrolled in and after FY2020 cannot take this course.
