Course description and aims

This course is for doctoral students in the Graduate major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society, which requires students to learn advanced research and education skills. Students will not only propose a collaborative strategy with diverse members of society with expertise for a specific problem in the real world, but also define an opportunity and framework for implementing it.

Student learning outcomes

After this training, based on the aquired skills and knowledge from the master-level training at the Global Engineering course, doctoral students should be able to propose a trandisciplinary project to tackle an actual social issues with different stakeholders.

Class flow

This course is based on student-led activities, in a transdisciplinary project, with close consultation with their advisers. Group works are also encouraged. There will be a final presentation to share the results of what is implemented and what is realized by them.

Those students who wish to take this course need to prepare a plan of the activities in advance and to obtain the approval of their advisers.

Class 1 Those students who take this course will implement his/her transdisciplinary project based on the approved plan. Upon the progress of the project, the students should consult with their advisers or other appropriate faculty members. There will be interim presentations to the supervisor in each of the registered quarters, and student should make presentation at GEDES student workshop. The students are requested to share the outcome and lessons from the implementation of their transdisciplinary project. These presentations will be taken into the grade of the course. TBC

Assessment criteria and methods

Based on the evaluation of the preparatory plan, presentation at GEDES student workshop as well as the final report.
