Energy policies have changed in all countries from the start of this century. This class conducts group works to survey the current situation of electricity supply and energy policy in Asian countries (including Japan) and develop electricity supply scenarios up to 2030. The information gathered as well as the discussions in the groups will be summarized and presented. Since it is important to work with people from different disciplines and cultural backgrounds in the field of environment and energy, a lecture on communication will be also provided. Students’ understanding on environment and energy will be deepened and communication and presentation skill will be developed through lectures, discussions and presentations.
Students will acquire the skills to i) read and understand material related to energy demand and supply; ii) make simple analyses based on key concepts in energy economics; iii) explain the current situations and outlooks for each energy sector (such as nuclear and wind power); and iv) take part in group discussions and presentations in English.
