Course description and aims

Organic polymeric materials are an important soft material which supports the next generation industry. This course provides the concept of click chemistry, which has recently attracted much attention from the viewpoint of efficiently producing functional polymeric materials. The important chemical reactions classified as click chemistry are introduced, and the use in polymer syntheses is explained. In addition, an overview of the history, environmental-benign synthesis, and electronic and photonic device applications of organic semiconducting polymers are also explained.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will:
1) Grasp the basic concept of functional polymeric materials and soft materials.
2) Understand the design and synthesis of polymeric materials by using cross-coupling reactions and click chemistry reactions.
3) Know the evaluation methods of organic device performances.

Keywords

Click chemistry, functional polymers, polymer synthesis, organic semiconductors, electronic devices, photonic devices

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Two-thirds of each class is devoted to fundamentals and the rest to advanced content or application. To allow students to get a good understanding of the course contents and practical application, recent literature related to the contents of this course is searched.
