Course description and aims

This class aims to learn the skills of measurement and/or data processing, and to develop the ability of grasping physical phenomena/concepts through the transdisciplinary fields.

Student learning outcomes

Students will acquire the following abilities;
(1) Be able to understand the reaction kinetics and mass/energy balances
(2) Be able to measure the phase equilibrium and interpret the results
(3) Be able to understand the mechanism, signal detection and control for basis of control function
(4) Be able to understand the fundamentals of wireless communication

Keywords

reaction kinetics: phase equilibrium: control of actuator: fundamentals of wireless communication

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Four different experiments are provided in each professor’s laboratory. Students are divided into four groups and each group will conduct one of the experiments every week. The experiments are conducted in Japanese for three groups and in English for the other group. The preparation for this class or experiment is checked in a preliminary test, and if it is insufficient, the student cannot join the experiment. After experiment, students can deepen their understanding of each themes by the following oral examination. Finally, students shall submit the report for summary.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京工業大学学修規程) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Graduate Learning (東京工業大学大学院学修規程), for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
