This course forms the three step program of the urban earthquake engineering with the international communication and the international internship This is the intermediate step of this program.
In the beginning, the course outlines are explained.
As a first assignment, each student is required to research and summarize the seismic design code in his/her home country. Each student is required to give its presentation.
As a second assignment, each group of several students consisting of the Japanese and international students is required to do the field work in the designated area in Tokyo on the disaster prevention for earthquake and fire. Based on the field work, each group needs to write the report on the disaster prevention and give the presentation.
Students can improve the practical expertise on the disaster prevention and the ability of international communication and cooperativeness through this course.
By this course, each student can enhance the following:
(1) the knowledge on the earthquake and disaster prevention through the field work.
(2) the ability of international communication and cooperativeness through the collaboration between Japanese and international students.
(3) the ability of international communication through the presentation and discussion in English.

The field work will be done by groups of several members including Japanese and international students. Before the field work, each group is required to make the preparation. After the field work, each group is required to write the report on the disaster prevention and make the presentation and discussion.

Bureau of Urban Development, Tokyo Metropolitan Government: "Your Community’s Earthquake Risk" will be delivered.
The overall performance of (1) the presentation on the seismic design code in each country, and (2) the presentation and report of the disaster prevention based on the field work will be evaluated.
It is desirable for students to obtain the credits of Advanced Technical Communication Skills in advance.
