Students are assigned advanced design problems with urban and societal topics, and are asked to present solutions through research-based, analytical presentations, and proposal presentations using drawings and models. Students form multiple groups of about five, which collaborate on everything from research to the final presentation.
At each stage (research, conceptual design work, basic design work, preparation work for final presentation) of this course in design studio format, the instructor check the students' esquisse.
The goal is for students to learn both close analytic reasoning and quick creative reasoning with respect to architecture and the design of urban spaces. Another goal is to take advantage of the group work aspect of the course to develop leadership, by developing individual creative power and ability to work in a group.
