In recent years as instability from atmospheric events has become more noticeable, strong winds, squalls, torrential rain, and other extreme events have been occurring frequently, causing destruction due to exceeded safety tolerances of social infrastructure and lifelines, as well as facilities losing functionality, with the possibility of triggering a chain-reaction environment crisis. This course recognizes the vulnerability of society in the face of extensive as well as regional disasters occurring in urban regions, while dealing with atmospheric disturbances with a fluid dynamics approach. Students understand the path to maintaining safety in the face of urban vulnerability to extreme atmospheric weather.
This course uses observation technology and analysis methods to figure out the state of damages to cities by atmospheric disturbances and natural disturbances. Students acquire evaluation skills that contribute to a reduction in disaster risks. In addition, students learn specific measures for avoiding the severe damage that accompanies regional atmospheric circulations, and methods for maintaining a pleasant environment while also having a disaster-resistant urban form.
