Course description and aims

This course covers the fundamentals of the knowledge for tourism study. This course introduce the basic terms relating to tourism planning, the concept of tourism, and the brief history of tourism.
This course facilitstes students'understanding of the basic issues faced by contemporary tourism.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1)understand basic terms relating to tourism planning;
2)understand the concept of tourism;
3)understand the brief history of tourism; and
4)understand the basic issues faced by contemporary tourism.

Class flow

6 classes are a lecture format. However, in 2 classes, students read the two literatures and explain about their contents and their own opinions.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students’ course scores are based on 4 reports (50%) and 2 presentations (50%).
The instructor may fail a student if he/she repeatedly comes to class late or resubmits reports too often.
