For understanding and predicting about an environmental system as a complex systems including many factors quantitatively, numerical simulation is absolutely necessary tool. In this course,
(1) Atmospheric environments (urban/regional scale meteorology)
(2) Water environments (coastal and groundwater environments)
(3) Global environments (global scale ocean, atmosphere and watershed system)
The aims of this course are (1) to understand latest achievements in each field of environmental modeling and (2) to learn how to apply the numerical simulations of environments to real research fields. Through this course students are expected to acquire how to apply modeling and numerical simulation technique to their own research.
By the end of this course, students will be able to understand latest achievements in each field of environmental modeling, and will be able to learn how to apply the numerical simulations of environments to real research fields.

Lectures are omnibus style about each topic by invited experts. In the later part, literature searching about a selected topic from above lectures is conducted, and students are required to summarize in a report.

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
Handout will be distributed at beginning of class.
Learning achievement is evaluated by reports (short report with questions for every class, final report).
