Course description and aims

With regards to the impact of wind flows on architecture and cities, high wind speeds can lead to urban disasters or the destruction of buildings, while low wind speeds are related to urban environmental problems but also the comfort that comes with air flows inside and outside of buildings. This course focuses on wind turbulences, while students learn methods of applying computer simulation prediction technology related to wind flows to maintain the safety of architecture and cities, and achieve a better architectural environment. Based on specific examples, model creation methods, calculation methods, and usage of results are explained.

Student learning outcomes

The following objectives will be reached by this course. 1) Students understand the characteristic features of the safety and pleasantness of architecture and cities in relation to wind turbulence phenomena. 2) Students understand the basic characteristic features of wind flows for architecture and cities. 3) Based on specific examples, students acquire computer simulation skills for wind flows.
