This course provides introductory concept and theory of Mechanics of Materials which is an engineering field deals with strength, rigidity and stability of materials and structures. Principal subjects are the concept of stress and strain, the theory of tension and compression of rods, the theory of torsion of shafts, and the theory of bending of beams. This course is provided in the lecture style but some simple homework is given every time to let students gain basic understandings of the subject.
The aims of this course are to learn basic concept and theory of Mechanics of Materials and to get basic ability to design and evaluate the strength and rigidity of simple structural elements.
The goal of this course is to get basic ability to design and evaluate the strength and rigidity of simple structural elements such as:
(1) Rod subjected to tension and compression,
(2) Shaft subjected to torsion, and
(3) Beam subjected to bending.
