Course description and aims

Medical Biotechnology is an engineering curriculum that uses technology from bioengineering to develop technologies useful for medicine. The field has applications for everything from a variety of diseases such as cancer to infectious diseases. Students learn in the course the fundamentals of developing materials and technologies with applications for people, as well as being instructed on diagnostic technologies such as biosensing, imaging, and biomarkers, and also developing technologies for regenerative medicine, drug delivery systems, cancer treatment, etc. Students are first provided with an overview of the basics of bioengineering applied to medicine, and are instructed on the properties required of bioengineering materials from a perspective of disposition. In addition, students are taught the basics of biosensing technology crucial to bioengineering, and are introduced to applications for infectious diseases, etc. Getting an overview of applications of these technologies for diagnostic techniques and treatments for cancer, students are instructed on cutting edge bioengineering.
