Catalysts for reactions occurring in all living organisms are enzymes, so that the understanding of properties and functions of enzymes is indispensable for the understanding of life science and technology. This course covers basics and applications concerning enzymes. The knowledge of inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry will be applied to the understand enzymes. The cutting-edge research using enzymes in the field of inorganic, physical, and organic chemistry as well as the medicinal, food, and environmental sciences is also introduced. Furthermore, the opportunities to discuss, communicate and present about the field of studies are given.
The lectures about the enzyme improve your logical thinking ability, communication and presentation skills as well as help your acquirement of the technical knowledge. It is to cultivate the human resources who can lead advanced science and engineering through the studies of enzymes.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Apply the knowledge of inorganic chemistry to understand enzyme science and technology and foster the abilities to apply the acquired knowledge of enzyme to back to inorganic chemistry.
(2) Apply the knowledge of physical chemistry to understand enzyme science and technology and foster the abilities to apply the acquired knowledge of enzyme to back to physical chemistry.
(3) Apply the knowledge of organic chemistry to understand enzyme science and technology and foster the abilities to apply the acquired knowledge of enzyme to back to organic chemistry.
(4) Acquire the knowledge of enzymes in the field of medicinal, food, and environmental sciences and foster the abilities to apply the acquired knowledge of enzyme to back to the field of medicinal, food, and environmental sciences.
(5) Understand the applied research about enzymes and present the search of recent studies about enzymes.
enzyme, metalloenzyme, electron transfer in enzyme, hydrolase, oxidoreductase, coenzyme, enzyme useful in medical field, enzyme for food processing, enzyme for environmental clarification
