Course description and aims

[Summary of the lecture] This course covers the fundamental and advanced topics of coordination chemistry, such as the bond, structure, and reactivity of various metal complexes as well as the synthesis, structure, and function of coordination cages and polymers.
[Aim of the lecture] Metal complexes and coordination structures composed of metal ions and organic ligands exhibit unusual chemical reactivity and physical properties. The aim of this lecture is to facilitate students' understanding of a wide range of coordination chemistry.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to understand and explain (1) the bond and structure of various metal complexes, (2) the chemical reactivity and physical properties of metal complexes, (3) the structure and function of coordination cages, and (4) the structure and function of coordination polymers.

Class flow

Lectures will be given in the following order: (1) the bond and structure of metal complexes, (2) the chemical reactivity and physical properties of metal complexes, (3) the structure and function of coordination cages, and (4) the structure and function of coordination polymers. Students' understanding will be confirmed by a quiz or question-and-answer in each topic.
