Course description and aims

[Description of this course] This course will focus on the chemical thermodynamics of mixture and the fundamentals of chemical equilibrium required for the design and optimization of chemical processes.
[Aim of this course] This course aims for students to understand phase equilibrium and chemical equilibrium and how to estimate transport properties required for the design and optimization of reaction and separation processes.

Student learning outcomes

[Student learning outcomes] The target of this course is to explain and analyze phase equilibrium and chemical equilibrium required for the design and optimization of the reaction and separation process.

Keywords

thermodynamics of mixture, phase equilibria, chemical equilibria, electrochemical equilibria

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

This course proceeds according to slides uploaded to T2SCHOLA. In the last 30 minutes of each class, exercises are done that correspond to the content of that day's class.

Course schedule/Required learning

  Course schedule Required learning
Class 1 Thermodynamics of an ideal and real system To explain thermodynamics for ideal and real system.
Class 2 Fundamentals and criteria for gas-liquid equilibrium To explain the fundamentals and criteria of gas-liquid equilibrium.
Class 3 Fundamentals and criteria for liquid-liquid equilibrium To explain the fundamentals and criteria for liquid-liquid equilibrium.
Class 4 Fundamentals of chemical equilibrium To explain fundamental equation for chemical equilibrium.
Class 5 Thermodynamics for chemical reaction system To explain thermodynamics for chemical reaction system.
Class 6 Thermodynamics for multi-phase chemical reaction system To explain thermodynamics for multi-phase chemical reaction system.
Class 7 Fundamentals of electrochemical equilibrium To explain fundamental equation for electrochemical equilibrium.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Textbook(s)

None required.

Reference books, course materials, etc.

All materials used in class can be found on T2SCHOLA.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students will be evaluated based on their understanding of phase equilibrium and chemical equilibrium. Students' course score will be decided by considering all of homework, exercise (attendance), final exam.
