In this lecture, the exercise about organic and physical chemistry will be carried out alternately to understand basic knowledge for polymer chemistry. In organic chemistry part, the exercise related to "Organic Chemistry V (Carbonyl Compounds)", and "Organic Chemistry VI (Amines)" will be carried out. The focus topics of organic chemistry part are shown below; I. carboxylic acid derivatives and nucleophilic acyl substitution, II. carbonyl α-substitution reactions, III. carbonyl condensation reactions, IV. amines and heterocyclic compounds, and pericyclic reactions.
In physical chemistry part, physical properties of polymer and related parts of physical chemstry will be practiced. By understanding rubber elasticity, the concepts of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics in polymer physics will be introduced.
The practice examination will be carried out every class to confirm the understanding level about total topics.
At the end of this lecture, in organic chemistry part, students will acquire the ability to understand basic organic chemistry about carboxylic acid derivatives, nucleophilic acyl substitution, carbonyl α-substitution and condensation, amines and heterocyclic compounds, pericyclic reactions, and solve the related practice problems. In physical chemistry part, the students will develop their understanding and ablitiy of discussion about the physical properties of polymer by dealing with the knowledge of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.
Nucleophilic acyl substitution, carbonyl α-substitution reactions, carbonyl condensation reactions, aldol reactions, Claisen condensations, Micheal additions, amines, heterocyclic compounds, pericyclic reactions, thermodynamics first law, thermodynamics second law, Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, entropy, distribution function, rubber elasticity
