In this lecture, the exercise about organic and physical chemistry will be carried out alternately to understand basic knowledge for polymer science. In organic chemistry part, the exercise related to "Organic Chemistry III (Aromatic Compounds)", "Organic Chemistry IV (Nucleophilic Substitution)", and "Organic Chemistry V (Carbonyl Compounds)" will be carried out. The focus topics of organic chemistry part are shown below: I. benzene and aromaticity, II. nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions, III. aldehydes and ketones, IV. carboxylic acids and nitriles. The focus topics of physical chemistry part are shown below: I. phase transition of pure substances, II. property of mixtures, III. characterization of polymers, and IV. structure and properties of polymers.
The practice examination will be carried out every class to confirm the understanding level about total topics.
At the end of this lecture, in organic chemistry part students will acquire the ability to understand basic organic chemistry about benzene and aromaticity, nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and nitriles, and solve the related practice problems. In physical chemistry part, students will acquire the ability to understand basic physical chemistry about pure substances and mixtures, and then characterization, structure, and properties of polymers.
